Based on the recommendations generated from the learning exchange program (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I59iyIF9ao), JWAS implemented a project reaching out 1000 marginalized adolescent girls, who were most at risk of child marriage, through a face to face community and household level educational sessions. The overall aim of the project was to contribute ending child marriage and reducing gender-based violence.
The project contributed to achieve SDG – 5 (Gender Equality) towards declaring child marriage free communities in Nepal. The project educated 1000 adolescent girls together their parents and also provided counseling to the parents on the importance of education to daughters.
Key results of the project are:
• % of parents who want to marry their daughter before 18 years of age have dropped by 9.
• 13% parents during baseline stated that they would marry their daughter after they complete graduation. The percentage increased by 6 in the endline survey.
On the success of the project, Rockflower partners’ writes,
‘Rockflower is proud to share the remarkable progress and success stories from our ongoing partnership with Janaki Women Awareness Society (JWAS) in Nepal. Through our collaborative project, "Share the Learning: Scale the Impact" we have witnessed transformative changes in communities, particularly among the Musahar community, one of the most marginalized populations in Nepal. The project, aimed at combating child marriage and gender-based violence, has made significant strides by educating and empowering adolescent girls and their families. Through household and community level educational sessions, the initiative has reached 1000 adolescent girls, including approximately 50 from the Musahar community. These sessions have provided vital information on the detrimental effects of child marriage and the importance of education for girls.’
