Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Development (YEED) दक्षा युवा परियोजना

Overall project objective:
Young people, especially young women, in Dhanusha districts of Nepal pursue decent work opportunities of their choice, either waged employment or self-employment.

Target groups and project participants
The project aims for 350 vulnerable youths aged between 18-24 years where 50% male and 50% will be female. Similarly, as direct beneficiaries project plan to train approximately 350 family members in gender equality. Through outreach to employers, parents, family and the community, the project will contribute to creating an enabling environment for youths to pursue employment opportunities.

Project location and period
There is total 5 municipalities i.e Janakanandani Rural Municipality, Bideha Municipality, Kamala Municipality, Shahidnagar Municipality and Sabaila Municipality is the project area in Danusha district.
The project duration is forty-two months start from september 2022 to December 2025.

Achievement so far
350 project participant capacited on life skill development, short term business skill development, protection and gender equality.

The Project selected 12 T&Es and provide vocational skills training targeting 230(41% women, 59% Men) youth including work-based learning on 12 different occupations over 5 different Palikas. 199 have got access and opportunity of gender responsive work spaces for their On-the-Job Training and 123 have started their job/occupation related in the field they got training.

JWAS has provided start-up support to 95 youths (80 women, 15 men) on different 11 trade/business who opt for self-employment through cash-value voucher modality. Before providing the start-up supports the youths were provided with Life Skills Training, Micro-enterprise/business development training and short skills training. On an average project participant who trained on vocational training and who started their own businesses are earning average of Rs.10000/month.
