Emergency Relief to Flood Victims in Nepal
Background and Geographical location
1. Between 27-28 September 2024, heavy rainfall in Nepal triggered severe flooding, landslides, and widespread damage across 20 districts, with seven 1 severely affected. The Nepal Government has declared 71 municipalities across 21 districts as disaster crisis/emergency zones due to the severe impacts of landslides and floods. According to National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, as of 16 October, a total 2.59 million people were affected, with 250 deaths, and more than 17,000 individuals have been rescued.
2 . Vulnerable communities face limited access to clean water, sanitation, healthcare, and food, which heightens health risks, particularly for women, children, and the elderly. Damage to schools and health facilities has further strained the health and education sectors. Immediate needs include shelter, food, water, sanitation, and healthcare. Floods and landslides have damaged 550 water systems and 9,000 sanitation facilities, jeopardizing access to clean water. With many using alternative water sources, preventing waterborne and vector-borne disease outbreaks is crucial
